What Is “A Day in the Life”?

Every day at Building Bloch Pathways is designed to provide meaningful opportunities for individuals to develop practical life skills, build confidence, and participate actively in their communities. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all schedule, our programs combine structured activities with individualized support to help participants work toward their personal goals.

While each participant’s experience may vary based on their interests, abilities, and support plan, the sample schedule below offers a general overview of what a typical day may include. Activities are thoughtfully planned to encourage social interaction, communication, decision-making, and greater independence through real-world experiences.

Many of these activities complement our Community-Based Services and Community Integration programs, where participants practice everyday skills while engaging with the communities around them.

Why Daily Structure Matters

A consistent daily routine helps create predictability while encouraging participants to develop important life skills over time. Structured schedules allow individuals to practice new skills, build confidence, and become more comfortable participating in everyday activities.

Throughout the day, participants have opportunities to strengthen:

  • Communication skills
  • Social interaction
  • Independent decision-making
  • Community participation
  • Problem-solving
  • Daily living skills
  • Time management
  • Confidence in unfamiliar environments

Our staff provides guidance and encouragement while respecting each participant’s pace, preferences, and individualized goals.

Skills Developed Throughout the Day

Every activity within the daily schedule is designed to encourage meaningful learning through real-world experiences. Rather than focusing on isolated tasks, participants have opportunities to practice skills that can support greater independence at home and within their communities.

Depending on individual goals and support needs, participants may strengthen skills related to:

Daily Living Skills

Activities such as shopping, meal planning, community outings, and personal routines help reinforce practical skills that encourage greater independence. Participants who need additional support in these areas may also benefit from our Independent Living Support services.

Social and Communication Skills

Throughout the day, participants engage in conversations with peers, staff, and community members. These interactions encourage relationship building, communication, cooperation, and confidence in social settings.

Community Participation

Visits to parks, libraries, recreational facilities, and local businesses help participants become more familiar with their communities while encouraging safe and meaningful participation in everyday activities.

Confidence and Self-Advocacy

Participants are encouraged to make choices, express preferences, ask questions, and participate actively in planning activities whenever appropriate. These opportunities help build confidence and promote greater independence.

Every Participant’s Day Is Unique

Although this page highlights a typical schedule, no two participants have exactly the same experience. Activities are adjusted based on individual goals, interests, support needs, and person-centered planning.

Some participants may spend additional time practicing independent living skills, while others focus on community participation, recreation, communication, or social development. Our goal is to create opportunities that are both meaningful and appropriate for each individual.

When appropriate, participants may also receive support through our Self-Determination Program (SDP) or Independent Living Support services as part of their individualized plans.

Our Person-Centered Approach

At Building Bloch’s Pathways, every activity is guided by a person-centered philosophy that recognizes each participant’s strengths, preferences, and goals. We believe meaningful progress happens through encouragement, consistency, and opportunities to learn in real-life environments.

By working collaboratively with participants, families, caregivers, and support teams, we create experiences that promote confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging within the community.
